Marcos bowed out in the third round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Thursday, beaten by fifth-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-2, 7-6(2).
Marcos broke Tsonga in the first game of the match, but the 2008 Australian Open runner-up came storming back to win 10 of the next 13 games for a 6-2, 4-2 lead. Marcos raised his game and benefitted from Tsonga unforced errors to draw level at 4-4 and subsequently force a tie-break. However, Tsonga came back strongly in the tie-break and claimed victory in 81 minutes.
Marcos will next play at the If Stockholm Open, an ATP World Tour 250 indoor hard court tournament that begins on Monday. Marcos won the title in the Swedish capital in 2009, beating Olivier Rochus.
