In the first round of the Medibank International in Sydney, Marcos, who took part in Saturday’s draw ceremony, will face Australian wild card Nick Lindahl.
Marcos is unseeded in the 28-man field and is placed in the third quarter of the draw. Should he advance past the No. 251-ranked Lindahl, he will face a second-round clash against either sixth seed Viktor Troicki, a semi-finalist in Doha this week, or Frenchman Florent Serra. Fourth seed Lleyton Hewitt is a potential quarter-final opponent.
Beaten Brisbane semi-finalists, Gael Monfils and Tomas Berdych, head up the Australian Open Series event, which gets underway on Monday, 11 January. Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, who is contesting the Chennai semi-finals this weekend, also features as the third seed.

Marcos is looking to bounce back from a second-round defeat to the in-form Tomas Berdych in Brisbane earlier this week and is hoping to fine tune his Australian Open preparations in Sydney.
“[Nick] Lindahl is not familiar to me, but I will have to be careful and just do my best. I hope to do well in Sydney this year,” said Marcos, who was a quarter-finalist on his tournament debut in 2007.
