Following his success at the Tashkent Challenger, Marcos will look to carry his strong form into the If Stockholm Open – an ATP World Tour 250 tournament that began today in the Swedish capital.
Marcos’ victory in Tashkent last week propelled him up to No. 66 in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings – a leap of 21 places – and there are plenty more points up for grabs in Stockholm.
First up for Marcos is a tough challenge, though, third-seeded Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero, who is looking to bounce back from a first-round exit at last week’s Shanghai ATP Masters 1000 Presented by Rolex.
Should Marcos upset the former World No. 1 and 2003 Roland Garros champion, he would face either American Robert Kendrick or Spaniard Oscar Hernandez, with the prospect of meeting fifth-seeded German Andreas Beck in the quarter-finals.
Marcos is in the top half of the draw, alongside two-time runner-up Robin Soderling – a contender to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Marcos will not play his first-round match against Ferrero until Wednesday. Stay tuned to www.baghdatis.com for all the latest news on Marcos’ progress in Stockholm.
Go, Marcos!
