A day after notching his 10th win of the season on the ATP World Tour, Marcos fell 6-4, 6-4 to defending champion Jack Sock in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships on Friday.
Marcos was broken in the opening game of the match, as Sock converted his fifth break point and consolidated for a 2-0 lead. He would drop the opening set 6-4 and surrendered an immediate break in the first game of the second set as well. Seeded seventh, Marcos fired 10 aces and won 76 per cent of first serve points, but would lose after one hour and 22 minutes.
Despite a quarterfinal defeat in Houston, it was Marcos' first appearance in the last eight of a clay-court ATP World Tour event in four years (Munich 2012). He will next head to Bucharest and Munich for two more ATP 250 tournaments.
