Marcos’ campaign at the UNICEF Open came to an end when he was beaten by Croatia’s Ivan Dodig 7-6(4), 6-1 in the semi-finals on Friday in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
It was a busy 26th birthday for Marcos. After rain washed out his quarter-final match on Thursday, he returned early Friday to dismiss Denis Gremelmayr 6-1, 6-0 in an impressive performance to reach his first semi-final of the season.
However, he failed to convert an early lead against the fourth-seeded Dodig, who went on to claim victory in 88 minutes. Marcos had served for the first set in the 12th game, but was unable to close it out and Dodig capitalised by winning the ensuing tie-break, before breaking serve three times in the second set.
Marcos will now move on to Wimbledon, where he is seeded No. 32 and due to face American James Blake in the first round. Check out the full draw here.
The Championships get underway on Monday, 20th June at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
