Bad weather on Monday meant that Marcos and Tommy Robredo did not take to court. The match has been rescheduled for 11 a.m on centre court on Tuesday.
Preview
In the first round of his Ordina Open campaign, Marcos will take on Spanish No. 2 seed Tommy Robredo in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
World No. 15 Robredo is a three-time former semi-finalist at ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2001 (l. to Canas), 2002 (l. to Schalken) and 2004 (l. to Llodra) – he has a 15-7 tournament record. However, elsewhere on the grass Robredo has struggled – he has never reached a grass-court final and has never advanced past the third round at Wimbledon.
Marcos is also a former semi-finalist in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, reaching the last four on his only previous appearance in 2006 (l. to Ancic).
The 27-year-old Robredo is making his 2009 grass-court debut by playing in his first event since reaching the quarter-finals at Roland Garros two weeks ago. The Spaniard has enjoyed most success on the clay courts this season – winning two ATP World Tour titles earlier this season at Costa do Sauipe (d. Bellucci) and Buenos Aires (d. Monaco).
Encouragingly, Marcos has won both his previous meetings with Robredo. Both came on hard courts at the 2005 Australian Open and at ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Paris in 2007. Marcos also has the slight advantage of having cut his teeth on the grass last week at AEGON Championships, where he reached the second round.
