Marcos will face an immediate test as he begins his BMW Open campaign in Munich. A potential second-round encounter against World No. 3 and defending champion Alexander Zverev looms large at the ATP World Tour 250 event.
But if Marcos is to face off against the home favourite in a blockbuster clash, he will first need to get past another German - Yannick Hanfmann. It will be their first meeting.
Making his sixth trip to Munich, Marcos is hoping to score his first clay-court match win since 2016. He will look to replicate his strong previous results in the German city, having reached the semi-finals on two occasions, in 2007 and 2010. He owns a 9-5 record overall.
Other top players at the BMW Open include second seed Roberto Bautista Agut, third seed Diego Schwartzman and fourth seed Hyeon Chung. Three-time champion Philipp Kohlschreiber is also in the draw.
