Mixed Results Saturday In Zagreb

Sunday, 05 February, 2012

Marcos had mixed results on Saturday at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors, losing out to the in-form Lukas Lacko in the singles semi-finals, but advancing to the doubles final of the ATP World Tour 250 indoor hard-court tournament with Russian partner Mikhail Youzhny.

Marcos saw his perfect 8-0 record in Zagreb come to an end with a 7-5, 7-6(3) defeat to Lacko. Marcos surrendered a 4-1 lead in the second set as Lacko fought back to clinch victory in one hour and 47 minutes.

Doubles gave Marcos the opportunity to bounce back quickly, though, as he and Youzhny defeated second-seeded Israelis Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram 6-2, 6-4 for a place in the final. The duo, playing together for the first time this week, saved all five break points they faced and broke Erlich-Ram on three occasions to prevail in 63 minutes.

Marcos is through to his second ATP World Tour doubles final and is bidding for his first title after a runner-up finish with Marc Gicquel at the Aircel Chennai Open four years ago. In the final, he and Youzhny will face Croatian wild cards Ivan Dodig and Mate Pavic; Marcos defeated Dodig in singles quarter-final action on Friday.

The match is scheduled to take place on Sunday following the singles final, which takes place at 4pm local time (+1hr GMT); Youzhny is involved in both finals and will challenge Lacko for the singles title. Check out the full order of play here.
