Meet Carlos Fleming, the IMG client manager who has managed all of Marcos’ affairs related to his marketing and his management worldwide since Marcos signed with the global enterprise during the summer.
Both Carlos, individually, and IMG as a company represent the highest level personalities in sport and entertainment and bring to Marcos’ team a wealth of experience which will work towards a long-term goal of maximising all the different marketing opportunities that are available for Marcos on a global basis.
“At IMG we specialise in managing the top-level sports and entertainment celebrities in the world. The resources available at IMG allow us to market our clients seamlessly on an international basis,” Carlos explained. “Based on the way we’re structured, we have nearly 100 offices around the world, nearly 3,000 employees that I have access to that can help us in selling our clients both for endorsement deals and any markets in tennis-related activity. So we have a system in place to fully maximise his talent.”
IMG also represents global stars such as Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams, but Marcos particularly appealed to the company due to his success on the tennis court coupled with a dynamic, charismatic personality.
“First and foremost, Marcos has had success at the highest level in the game, which is the most important thing when you’re marketing any celebrity,” said Carlos. “They have to have real talent and they have to be able to perform at the highest level in their field and he’s clearly established that by his career-high ranking as well as his current ranking.
“I think in addition to that, what makes players special, and what makes certain players like Marcos more interesting to us than others, is the style with which he performs his sport, the way that he plays the game. He has an exciting style of game that gets fans interested in watching him and following him. He’s got a really electric style of play that excites fans and it’s interesting to watch and has got him a strong following.
“In addition to that it’s his personality. The fact that he’s got so much charisma, that’s got a really infectious personality that makes people want to root for him.”
