Hi everyone,
It’s been a great year, but I think I can do even better next season and I’ve been working really hard for the past few weeks to get myself in the best shape possible.
For sure winning Sydney was really good for me. Playing very good in the summer was a very good highlight. Also playing the finals in Moscow. I think I had an OK year, but I think I can play better. I think I can be more consistent.
For sure I had a lot of highlights last year; I beat Roger Federer in Indian Wells, I beat Rafael Nadal in Cincinnati, both in Masters 1000s. And that’s where I have to improve, in the Masters 1000s, I have to play better in those tournaments so that I can improve my ranking.
My goal is to improve physically, improve every time, because I think if I improve in that area then the results will come. I’m playing good, I feel good and when I feel good on court I can beat anybody. That’s the way I have to approach things. So I’ve been working hard with my coach, physio and trainer on a pretty grueling fitness regime the past few weeks, including building up my endurance training by working in the mountains with a bike (going uphill with the bike for two hours three times a week!) and working in the gym doing a bit of everything – core, abdominal, muscle training and power.
It was different kinds of training so I wouldn’t get bored mentally; for me it was fun. Now, I feel stronger on the court, I feel faster and slowly, slowly I will get better and better. I think I have improved in all departments.
I’ve been managing to keep up with the football as well and I think Manchester United are doing well; I’m very happy! They are my favourite team in Europe so I’m very happy they’re doing well. I watched the match the other day (against Arsenal); it was a very good tactical match from Sir Alex and I’m pretty happy they won.
I don’t know what my plans for Christmas are yet. I’m thinking of either staying in Cyprus or going to Paris to see my French family.
I hope you all enjoy the holiday season and I look forward to seeing you all on tour next year!
Best wishes,
Marcos
