It is with great disappointment that Marcos has been forced to withdraw from both next week's Bank Austria Tennis Trophy in Vienna and the following week's Mutua Madrilena Masters in Madrid with the back injury that he suffered in the Metz first round.
Marcos, who consulted with a doctor on Friday, will now go to Greece to receive treatment for 5-6 days and hopes to resume his training with coach, Peter Lundgren, at the end of next week in preparation for the Davidoff Swiss Indoors event in Basel, which begins on October 20.
Peter Lundgren said that Marcos is very disappointed about this latest injury development, having worked so hard to recover from the wrist injury that kept him out all summer. The timing is especially disappointing, considering Marcos was playing so well against Ivo Karlovic and had won the first set before suffering the back spasm.
However, he added that these things can happen when a player has been out for a while due to injury and he hopes Marcos will enjoy a speedy recovery and be back on the court soon for the last two tournaments of the year playing at his best.
