Marcos managed to return to winning ways today against France’s Julien Benneteau in the first round of the BMW Open in Munich. This victory pulls Marcos out of a slump in form that has seen him lose his last six matches. Marcos now faces a clash against Bulgarian teenager, Grigor Dimitrov.
In a tight first set, Marcos missed a set-point in the 12th game. However, he managed to open up a 4-2 lead in the first set tie-break and commandingly swept to a 7-2 victory to gain the crucial upperhand in the match. Marcos broke early in the second set and raced to a 3-1 lead. Despite being briefly pegged back when Benneteau levelled the set at 3-3, Marcos proceeded to win the next three games and book his place in the next round.
Marcos boasts a good record at the BMW Open, having reached the semi-finals on two previous occasions, in 2007 and 2010. This record will give Marcos every reason to believe that he can proceed to the latter stages of the tournament.
