For the second straight year, Marcos was defeated by Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round of the Winston-Salem Open. On Wednesday, Bautista Agut prevailed 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 20 minutes.
Marcos will turn his attention to the US Open after a strong week at the ATP World Tour 250 event. He earned straight set victories over Ricardas Berankis and Jiri Vesely, striking the ball with authority and confidence.
It was the third meeting between Marcos and Bautista Agut, having split a pair of encounters last year. Marcos had won in the Dubai quarter-finals, before the Spaniard notched a win in Winston-Salem.
Next, Marcos will head to New York for the US Open. He has fond memories of the Grand Slam from last year, having reached the Round of 16. It was his best result in 11 appearances.
