Bidding to reach his first Grand Slam fourth round in six years, Marcos came up just short on Friday at Wimbledon. No. 16 seed David Goffin prevailed 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 45 minutes.
Marcos drops to 3-1 against Goffin, having recently prevailed on the hard courts of the Australian Open and in Dubai this year. He fired seven aces, 21 total winners and converted on two of seven break points during the affair.
Marcos caps a strong grass-court season that saw him win four matches in four days to reach the semifinals at the Aegon Open Nottingham, followed by a run to the Wimbledon third round. On Wednesday, Marcos improved to 13-7 in Grand Slam five-setters, valiantly rallying from a two-set deficit to defeat Australian qualifier John Millman. It marked the third time he rallied from two sets down at a major.
Marcos will next fly to San Marino as Cyprus battles in Davis Cup Group III, beginning 15 July.
