Marcos will complete his preparation for the Australian Open this week by contesting the AAMI Classic, an exhibition tournament in Kooyong, Melbourne. His first match will be against Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic, the World No. 9, on Wednesday.
Also in the eight-player field are Tomas Berdych, Kei Nishikori, Lleyton Hewitt, Milos Raonic, Paul-Henri Mathieu and Juan Martin del Potro. The exhibition style of the competition gives players guaranteed matches in the final lead-in to the Australian Open, which begins on Monday at Melbourne Park.
The draw for the Australian Open will be made on Friday. Marcos has been seeded No. 29 for the first Grand Slam championship of the year, where he reached the final in 2006, finishing runner-up to Roger Federer.
