Marcos will be part of the Cypriot team that travels to Bulgaria for the Europe/Africa Zone Group II Play-Offs on 8-10 July. There is a lot riding on the tie, particularly as the winner will avoid relegation to Group III. Cyprus has taken on Bulgaria four times in Davis Cup history, their only victory coming in 2007 when Marcos proved to be the crucial element in winning the tie for Cyprus.
Cypriots will hope that Marcos can reproduce the performance he brought to his last Davis Cup tie in March 2010, where he won all three of his matches in a 3-2 victory against Egypt. Cyprus finds itself in this playoff due to a 0-5 defeat at the hands of Hungary earlier in the year, a tie in which Marcos did not play.
Team Captain Yiannos Hadjigeorgiou has chosen Rares Cuzdriorean, Christopher Koutrouzas and Philippos Tsangaridis to play with the Cypriot number one, and he will hope that Marcos can inspire his colleagues to victory in this decisive tie. Marcos is the only player from either side in the tie currently ranked in the top 500, and will be confident of ensuring victory in both of his singles matches.
