Marcos will open his Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships campaign on Tuesday when he faces fourth seed Juan Martin del Potro in the first round.
Marcos has a 2-1 career lead over 2009 US Open champion del Potro, beating the Argentine in their past two meetings at the 2011 Australian Open and 2012 Sydney quarter-finals. The No. 7-ranked del Potro is coming off a quarter-final showing in Marseille. Before that, he had lifted the trophy in Rotterdam, beating Julien Benneteau in the final.

On Monday, Marcos and David Goffin were beaten in the first round of the doubles contest, falling to top seeds and last year’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals champions, Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez, 6-4, 6-1.
