Marcos will open his campaign at the Rogers Cup on Tuesday when he faces Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in the first round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 hard-court tournament in Toronto.
Marcos will take a lot of confidence into the match after his runner-up finish in Washington D.C., last week, which sparked a return to the Top 20 in the South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings.
World No. 72 Chardy is playing his first tournament of the Olympus US Open Series, following a quarter-final effort in Gstaad last month. The 23 year old’s other highlights this season include a quarter-final showing in Delray Beach (l. to Fish) and a third-round appearance at Wimbledon.
Marcos will be looking to avenge the defeat he suffered to Chardy in the Delray Beach quarter-finals last year, when he lost in two tie-break sets. It was their only previous meeting.
