Cyprus plays Ireland in the Davis Cup second round this weekend and Marcos will lead the home charge against Louk Sorensen in the first rubber on Friday on the hard courts of the National Tennis Centre in Nicosia.

The teams, this weekend, are playing for a spot in the third round and the chance to be promoted to Europe/Africa Zone I.

Photos Kallias is the nominated second singles player for Cyprus and will face Ireland’s Conor Niland in the second match on Friday. Marcos and Kallias will join forces in the doubles on Saturday against James McGee and Colin O’Brien, before the reverse singles on Sunday – when Marcos will play first once again.

Marcos’ first opponent, Sorensen, is currently No. 530 in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings and highlighted his season so far with a runner-up finish at a Futures event in Zagreb in February.

The 24 year old has a healthy Davis Cup record, with a 10-1 mark in singles. His last outing was against Morocco in April 2008, when he contributed to Ireland’s 3-2 win with victories over Mounir El Aarej and Younes El Aynaoui.

Marcos also has a stellar record in the ITF men’s team competition, having won 32 of his 35 singles matches.

The match will take place at 4pm local time. Stay tuned to baghdatis.com for all the latest updates.
