A year ago, Marcos nearly claimed one of the biggest victories of his career, pushing top seed Rafael Nadal to the brink of elimination in the Stuttgart second round. This year, he returns to the MercedesCup looking to go one step further. An opening matchup against home hope Jan-Lennard Struff awaits, with the winner set to face fourth seed Gilles Simon.
One of four former Top 10 players in his quarter of the draw, Marcos could potentially battle Juan Martin del Potro or Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals. Roger Federer is the top seed and lone Top 10 player in the draw.
Scheduled to play four ATP World Tour level events during this grass-court season, Marcos will also compete in Halle, Nottingham and Wimbledon. Last year, he reached his first semi-final on grass since 2011 in Nottingham.
Marcos, who claimed the 300th match win of his career last week at Roland Garros, owns a 43-28 win-loss record on grass.
