Marcos has been forced to pull out of Sunday’s reverse singles in the Davis Cup Group II play-off clash between Cyprus and Benin. Marcos has been advised not to play as a precaution, having recently been sidelined with a right shoulder injury.
Had he played, Marcos would have had the chance to equal Bjorn Borg’s record of 33 successive Davis Cup singles victories.
Marcos has been replaced in the match by teammate, Rares Cuzdriorean, with whom he won the doubles rubber on Saturday. With a 2-1 lead on the final day, Cyprus just needs to win one of the two reverse singles matches on Sunday to maintain its Group II status for 2014.
