Marcos will participate in his third Summer Games after the Cyprus Olympic Committee announced his qualification.
The flag bearer in London in 2012, Marcos defeated Go Soeda and 16th seed Richard Gasquet before falling to eventual champion Andy Murray in three tight sets. He previously competed in Athens in 2004, exiting in the second round to 14th seed Nicolas Kiefer.
Nearly one year since he made his ATP World Tour debut on South American soil, in Bogota, Marcos will travel to Rio de Janeiro for the event, which runs from 6-14 August. At No. 41 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, he is one of 56 eligible players to directly qualify for the tennis competition. He will also be one of 13 Cypriots in six sports to travel to Rio. Other sports include track and field, cycling, gymnastics, sailing and shooting. It is the nation's 10th consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics.
