After a strong opening performance against Julien Benneteau on Monday, Marcos will take plenty of confidence into his second round clash with Swedish No. 16 seed Robin Soderling on Wednesday at the Australian Open.
Getting to know…Robin Soderling
Ranked a career-high No. 17, Robin Soderling enjoyed a very successful 2008 season – finishing in the Top 20 for the first time, winning his third ATP World Tour title and reaching a further three finals.
The 24-year-old right-hander defeated American Robert Kendrick in four sets in his opening match on Monday. He is looking to improve on a poor Australian Open record, which has never seen him advance past the second round in three previous visits.
Head-to-Head
As with Benneteau in the first round, Marcos enters the clash trailing in the head-to-head statistics. Soderling takes a 3-1 career lead into their fifth meeting; he won their first two meetings – both on hard-court – at New Haven in 2006 and Doha in 2007 before Marcos registered on the scoreboard with a victory on grass at Halle in 2007. It was Soderling who won their only meeting last season on hard-court at Rotterdam.

When and Where?
Marcos will have the chance to extend his good fortune on Show Court 2 as the match is scheduled fourth on the court where Marcos defeated Benneteau in straight sets on Monday.
