Marcos will open his 2009 Sony Ericsson Open campaign against Latvian Ernests Gulbis on Wednesday in Miami.
Marcos goes into the match with the confidence of a 3-0 winning record against World No. 43 Gulbis. Marcos won their first two meetings in 2007 at Sydney and Wimbledon before recording his third victory earlier this season at Delray Beach. He has only lost one set to the Latvian.
The 20-year-old Gulbis has started the 2009 season with a 7-8 match record and has failed to win back-to-back matches in eight tour-level events. The right-hander made his Miami debut last year with a second round exit to Nikolay Davydenko.
The match is one of the highlights on Wednesday’s schedule and will take place second on Stadium, following a WTA singles match that starts at 11:00am ET.
