Getting to know…Ernests Gulbis
World No. 42 Gulbis has made a solid start to the 2009 season, but is yet to win back-to-back matches in six events. The 20-year-old Latvian had a break through season in 2008 – he reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final at Roland Garros and finished just outside the Top 50 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings. He is making his debut in Delray Beach.
Head-to-Head
Marcos has played and defeated Gulbis on two previous occasions, both in 2007. He recorded a comprehensive straight sets victory in the Sydney first round on hard court, but faced more of a test when the two met later on grass at Wimbledon – Marcos prevailed in four sets though.
