Marcos, who is seeded third in the main draw led by No. 1 Bjorn Phau, next faces Germany’s Dominik Meffert for a place in the quarter-finals. That match will take place on Thursday.

The victory marks Marcos’ first win since clinching the Oldum Brown Van Open title in Vancouver last month and is welcome match practice ahead of Cyprus’ crucial Davis Cup clash with Finland, due to take place away in Salohalli 18-20 September. Should Cyprus defeat the Finns, they would gain promotion to Europe/Africa Zone II, just one level below the elite World Group.
