Marcos is through to the second round of the Apia International Sydney after easing past Russia’s Dmitry Tursunov, 6-4, 6-4, on Tuesday at the ATP World Tour 250 hard-court tournament, where he won the title in 2010.
In front of an enthusiastic and supportive crowd, Marcos fired 14 aces and saved six of the seven break points he faced to beat Tursunov in one hour and 33 minutes.
He now goes on to face World No. 97 Matthew Ebden for the first time after the Australian wild card upset seventh-seed Marcel Granollers in the first round. The match is scheduled for second on Ken Rosewall Arena on Wednesday, with the first match beginning at 12noon local time (GMT +11hrs).
