For a place in the quarter-finals of the Medibank International in Sydney, Marcos will challenge sixth-seeded Serbian Viktor Troicki on Wednesday afternoon.
In the first round, World No. 29 Troicki edged Frenchman Florent Serra to improve his match record for the year to 4-1. Last week, the Belgrade native opened the 2010 season strongly, reaching the semi-finals in Doha, where he lost out to Rafael Nadal.
The 23-year-old Troicki, who is making his debut in Sydney this week, enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2009 – rising as high as No. 24 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings and reaching the final of the PTT Thailand Open in Bangkok, where he finished runner-up to Gilles Simon.
Marcos will face Troicki for the first time on Ken Rosewall Arena on Wednesday. Play is due to begin at 11:00 a.m. local time (midnight GMT, 2 a.m. Cyprus) with Marcos second on court following a men’s singles match.
