Lightning did not strike twice for Marcos against Vasek Pospisil, as the Canadian prevailed 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-3 in the second round of the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur.
Marcos, who triumphed in their lone previous meeting in Atlanta in July, saved five of seven break points but would succumb to the eighth-seeded Pospisil. He rebounded after losing a first set tie-break in forcing a decider, but was broken in the second game and fell after two hours and 29 minutes.
A finalist in Kuala Lumpur in 2011, Marcos dropped just his sixth deciding set in 15 such matches this year. He will next travel to the ATP World Tour 500 event in Tokyo as he looks to build on a 24-14 career record during the Asian swing.
