Marcos won his fourth match in four days to book a spot in the Aegon Open Nottingham semifinals, ousting Italy's Simone Bolelli 6-4, 6-4.
Marcos will next face Denis Istomin on Friday, and a win would secure his return to the Top 50 of the Emirates ATP Rankings for the first time since September 2013. A dominant force on the grass of Nottingham, Marcos has not dropped a set in reaching his 27th ATP World Tour semifinal. He notched victories over Victor Estrella Burgos, David Ferrer - his 20th Top 10 win, rising teen Alexander Zverev and Bolelli.
Against the Italian, he fired four aces, won an impressive 78 percent of total service points, including 83 percent (15/18) on his second serve, and did not face a break point. Marcos would claim victory in one hour and 16 minutes. It was his first win in three head-to-head meetings against Bolelli.
He will look to keep his foot on the pedal against Istomin, when they face off on Centre Court on Friday. It will be their fourth encounter, with Marcos holding a 2-1 edge. They most recently met in the first round of the 2014 Australian Open (won by Istomin), with Marcos prevailing in the final of the 2009 Tashkent Challenger and the semifinals of the ATP World Tour 250 event in Moscow in 2010.
The match is scheduled for first on Centre Court, with play commencing at 12:00pm noon local time.
