Marcos opened his 2015 campaign with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Australian John-Patrick Smith at the Happy Valley Challenger in Australia.
Seeded second, Marcos advanced to a second-round clash with Australian qualifier, World No. 523 Andrew Whittington, who beat Zhang Ze in straight sets in the first round. That match is scheduled for second on Court 2 on Thursday, following an 11am start.
Marcos is bidding to win his 11th ATP Challenger Tour title. He won four Challengers last year, helping him secure a Top 100 finish in the Emirates ATP Rankings.
After the Happy Valley Challenger, Marcos will complete his Australian Open preparations with an appearance at Adelaide’s World Tennis Challenge, where Marin Cilic, John McEnroe, Goran Ivanisevic and Michael Chang are also scheduled to play.
