Marcos faces World No. 4 Andy Murray in the Wimbledon third round on Saturday, having overcome Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the second round. Marcos was leading 7-5, 4-1 when the 21-year-old Dimitrov was forced to retire due to illness.
Marcos goes into the clash with Murray, set to be the third match on Centre Court, with the confidence of having beaten the Scot in three of their previous six meetings. Their only match on grass came six years ago, when Marcos prevailed in straight sets in the fourth round en route to the semi-finals.
British hope Murray came through in four tight sets against big-serving Ivo Karlovic on Thursday, and later looked ahead to the clash with Marcos.
“There were very few rallies,” said Murray. “A lot of it is sort of reaction; whereas I'm sure there will be a lot more longer rallies against Marcos and there won't be periods in the match where I can't get into his service games or I'm not touching the ball. It will be a different kind of match. I just need to make sure I hit enough balls tomorrow so I'm in a good rhythm for Saturday.”
Marcos is bidding to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon for the fourth time; the first since falling to Feliciano Lopez in the last 16 in 2008.
