Marcos won his singles second round match on Wednesday at the BB&T Atlanta Open and would proceed to claim his doubles opener later in the day as well.
Marcos needed two hours and four minutes to dispatch Australia's Sam Groth 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, advancing to the quarter-finals in Atlanta. He fired 11 aces and won 81 per cent of first serve points, while converting on two of seven break chances.
Marcos will be in search of his third ATP World Tour semifinal of the year when he faces second seed Vasek Pospisil on Friday. It will be their first meeting. Second seed Pospisil recently reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
Later in the day, Marcos teamed with Malek Jaziri to defeat Benjamin Becker and Lukas Lacko 7-6(3), 6-3 in their doubles opener. It was his first doubles match win since partnering with Eric Butorac to reach the final in Munich 2013. Marcos and Jaziri will face Colin Fleming and Gilles Muller in the quarterfinals.
