Marcos powered into the second round of Roland Garros on Tuesday evening in Paris as he dismissed Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Chela 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.
Marcos fired eight aces and hit more than double the amount of winners as Chela, with a total of 31 to just 19 unforced errors. He converted five of his eight break point chances to set a second-round clash with Spain’s Nicolas Almagro.
Marcos is through to the second round at the clay-court Grand Slam for the fifth time in eight visits. He faces a challenging match against the 12th-seeded Almagro on Thursday. The Spaniard is a two-time quarter-finalist at Roland Garros and warmed up for the major by winning his second title of the year in Nice last week.
