Fifth seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez defeated Marcos for the second time this year, earning a 7-5, 6-2 win in one hour and 27 minutes in the second round of the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy.
Marcos, who was making his second trip to Bucharest, won 61 per cent of first serve points and saved nine of 14 break points faced. He previously squared off against Garcia-Lopez in Zagreb in February, falling in the semi-finals.
Marcos is slated to make his first appearance on the clay of Estoril in 10 years next week. In 2005, he fell to former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero in a deciding tie-break in the first round.
