Marcos is poised to kick off the ATP World Tour's Asian swing at the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur. Making his fifth trip to the 250 level event, he owns an 8-4 tournament record including a final finish in 2011.
Marcos defeated former Top 10 talent Ernests Gulbis in his St. Petersburg opener last week and will look to do the same against former World No. 9 Nicolas Almagro on Tuesday. The pair meet for just the second time, with the Spaniard prevailing three years ago at Roland Garros. Also in Marcos' immediate path are eighth seed Vasek Pospisil and potential quarter-final opponent and second seed Feliciano Lopez. Lopez's countryman David Ferrer is the top seed in Kuala Lumpur.
Marcos' journey through Asia will also take him to the ATP World Tour 500 event in Tokyo, followed by the Shanghai Rolex Masters. He has enjoyed great success here over the years, posting a combined 23-13 record during the Asian swing. Marcos' first title came at the China Open in Beijing in 2006.
