Marcos was victorious in his return to the Aegon Open Nottingham on Tuesday, needing 71 minutes to down Evgeny Donskoy 7-5, 6-2.
Nottingham has provided great memories for Marcos in recent years, having claimed the ATP Challenger Tour title there in 2014, followed by a semi-final finish at the inaugural ATP World Tour event last year.
On Tuesday, he missed his first three break chances before evenutally converting in the 11th game of the opening set. He would close out the opener 7-5 with a hold to love. Marcos did not waste any opportunities in the second, breaking for 2-1 and again to love for 5-2, before sealing the victory on his first match point.
Donskoy had won their lone previous meeting, in the 2013 Moscow first round. Seeded ninth, Marcos will next face Sam Querrey. He earned a straight-sets win over the American in Stockholm last year.
