Looking to build momentum entering Wimbledon, Marcos scored his first grass-court win of the season on Monday at the Antalya Open.
Marcos defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-2, 6-1 to open his campaign at the inaugural edition of the ATP World Tour 250 event in Antalya. It was a dominant victory for Marcos, who prevailed after just 49 minutes, striking nine aces. It marked the first time he had dropped three games or fewer in a match since defeating Diego Schwartzman 6-0, 6-0 in Houston last year.
Marcos was ruthless on serve, saving the lone break point faced and claiming 83 percent (29/35) of his total service points. He converted five break chances of his own, surging to a 5-1 lead in the first set and a 4-0 advantage in the second. Marcos would close out the match on his first match point, blasting a deep return that Basilashvili was unable to handle.
Marcos will next face Argentina's Carlos Berlocq on Tuesday. He carries a 3-1 head-to-head edge into their second round meeting. 13 years removed from their first encounter at an ATP Challenger Tour event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, they most recently faced off on the indoor hard courts of Kuala Lumpur in 2013. The match is second on Court Duygu Aksit Oal, with play beginning at 2:00pm local time.
