Marcos will face old friend and rival Gilles Muller in the first round at Roland Garros. Making an 11th appearance at the clay-court Grand Slam, he enjoyed his best result in 2007 with a Round of 16 result.
A renewal of an old rivalry, which saw Marcos and the 33 year old from Luxembourg clash often in their junior careers, they will meet for just the third time at the ATP World Tour level. Marcos is eyeing continued success against Muller after claiming both previous encounters, in Atlanta and Stockholm last year.
Marcos would face either sixth seed and home favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round. Other seeds in his section of the draw are No. 12 David Goffin, No. 24 Philipp Kohlschreiber and No. 26 Joao Sousa.
This will be Marcos' 42nd appearance in a Grand Slam tournament. He is looking to build on a 9-10 record at Roland Garros.
