Marcos returned to the court for the first time in an ATP World Tour event since reaching the Dubai final a month ago. He would secure a comprehensive victory over German qualifier Benjamin Becker 6-3, 6-4 to reach the second round at the Miami Open.
Marcos struck first on Thursday, breaking in the second and fourth games of the opening set. He would turn aside a pair of break points while serving at 4-2 and reeled off three straight games in capturing the first set and taking an immediate 2-0 lead in the second. Marcos would eventually emerge victorious after one hour and 26 minutes, firing 26 winners and six aces. He saved three of four break points, while converting three of his own.
Marcos will face 24th-seed Nick Kyrgios on Saturday at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event, with a potenital battle against either American John Isner or Tim Smyczek looming in the third round.
