The second stop on Marcos' Asian swing brings him to Tokyo for the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships, where he will make his fifth appearance.
Marcos owns a 6-4 tournament record, including a quarter-final finish on debut 10 years ago and a semi-final result in 2012, falling to eventual champion Kei Nishikori. At World No. 51 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, he will look to continue his push for a Top 50 return in the Japanese capital city.
Marcos opens against old foe Fernando Verdasco in the first round - his sixth different Spanish opponent this year, having faced Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, Tommy Robredo and Nicolas Almagro. Marcos owns a victory in the lone meeting against Verdasco, prevailing in the 2010 Washington quarters. A win would pit him against either eighth seed Grigor Dimitrov or Benoit Paire. Other seeds in his half of the draw include No. 2 Nishikori, No. 4 Richard Gasquet and No. 6 Marin Cilic.
