Marcos will hope to notch his first win on grass this year at next week's MercedesCup in Stuttgart, following a loss to Israel's Dudi Sela at the Aegon Surbiton Trophy.
Sela won the rain-delayed first-round encounter 6-4, 7-6(4) after one hour and 19 minutes, despite Marcos saving six of eight break points faced. The match, which was postponed from Tuesday due to inclement weather, was completed under cloudy skies on Thursday morning. Located in suburban London, the Aegon Surbiton Trophy is the first grass-court event of the season on the ATP Challenger Tour.
After dropping the first set 6-4, Marcos was poised to battle back, rallying from a break deficit to force a second-set tie-break. He broke Sela when the Israeli served for the match at 5-4, but was unable to take the tie-break.
Marcos will next travel to Germany for a pair of ATP World Tour events in Stuttgart and Halle. He has fond memories from the 500-level event in Halle, having upset Tomas Berdych en route to the quarter-finals last year. He reached the lone ATP World Tour grass-court final of his career there in 2007.
