Marcos’ campaign at the BNP Paribas Masters was short lived as he was beaten in the first-round on Monday evening by Frenchman Gilles Simon, 7-5, 6-1.
Marcos rallied from a break down in the first set, but lost his serve once more in the 12th game to surrender the opener. Simon capitalised on his momentum in the second set and won 12 of the last 13 points to secure victory in 77 minutes at the Paris Omnisports.
Defeat brings to a close Marcos’ 2012 campaign. He finishes on a 35-25 match record, highlighted by recent semi-final showings in Stockholm, Tokyo and earlier in the season in Zagreb.
