Marcos will face John Isner in the quarter-finals of the Citi Open in Washington after knocking out second seed Kei Nishikori 6-1, 6-2 on Thursday.
The match lasted just 58 minutes as Marcos broke Nishikori five times and saved three of the four break points he faced. He mad 76 per cent of his first serves and won 62 per cent of his service points to improve to a 4-1 career lead over the Japanese player.
Earlier in the day, Nishikori had played his rain-delayed second-round match, defeating American Jack Sock.
Marcos will look to reach his first semi-final since the first week of the season in Brisbane when he takes on Isner. Marcos will need to overturn a 0-4 record against Isner, who has made a strong start to the Emirates Airline US Open Series, winning the Atlanta title last week (d. Anderson).
The match is scheduled for second on Stadium Court on Friday, beginning not before 4pm ET.
