Marcos is through to the quarter-finals of the Happy Valley Challenger in Australia after beating qualifier Andrew Whittington 7-5, 6-3 on Thursday.
After a delayed start due to rain, Marcos advanced in one hour and 34 minutes, converting four of his 13 break point chances and winning 70 per cent of his service points.
For a place in the semi-finals, Marcos will face fifth seed Aleksandr Nedovyesov, who battled through in a third-set tie-break against Tim Puetz. It will be Marcos’ first match against World No. 128 Nedovyesov.
