On Tuesday evening Marcos was forced to withdraw from his first round clash with Ivo Karlovic at the Open de Moselle in Metz with a back injury.
The problem came at a crucial stage in the match, with Marcos leading the top seeded Croat by a set.
After speaking to Marcos' coach Peter Lundgren this morning, we can reveal that Marcos had a back spasm, brought on by a disk in his back moving and hitting a nerve.
Marcos was in the doctors this morning receiving treatment and rehabilitation, but the good news is that Peter said he is feeling much better today, although it is too early to say how the injury will impact Marcos' impending schedule, if at all.
More good news is that his right wrist and arm, which have caused him problems over the past couple of months, both came through the encounter with Karlovic's booming serves in good shape, with no further problems to report.
By all accounts, Marcos had played a tremendous first set against the World No. 14 and so it is very unfortunate that the injury struck when it did. But hopefully Marcos will make a fast return to the court ready to produce more great tennis.
We'll keep you informed!
