After two weeks’ training at the IMG Academy in Florida, where he was joined by his family, Marcos is set to compete at the Sony Open Tennis in Miami, having been awarded a wild card into the main draw.
Marcos will play Colombian Santiago Giraldo in the first round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament, where he is making his seventh appearance. Marcos has a 1-0 head-to-head lead over Giraldo, having beaten the right-hander four years ago in Kuala Lumpur.
Should Marcos advance, he would face a second-round contest with No. 24 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber. Also in Marcos’ section of the draw are sixth seed and defending champion Andy Murray, 11th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and No. 32 Feliciano Lopez.
Main draw play gets underway on Wednesday at the Crandon Park Tennis Centre. Stay tuned to baghdatis.com for a schedule update.
