Marcos described his first match at the Davis Cup as easy. At the press conference, after the end of the match he said: “The match was easy. This is good as I did not get too tired in the court and I shall be ready for tomorrow and for the remaining match on Sunday.”
Marcos also commented on the new style he has been demonstrating on court lately: “This is Marcos Baghdatis’ new style. I am very fit I can say, and this helps. I spent two difficult years with my injuries I couldn’t move as I move today in the court. I believe that I am moving very fast and I am not tired. This helps me to be more solid and I get to where the ball is faster and I round off the point.”
When he was asked if we shall soon see a stronger Marcos, who will be in the world’s Top Ten, Marcos said: “This is what I am trying to do with my team. I beleive that within two years you will see Marcos Baghdatis why not in the top ten, why not in the top five and why not higher? I believe that if I continue working with the persons I have by my side I shall become stronger, I shall be more firm.
“I believe I can do it all as I have the tennis. What is left is to work more on my physical side. I work very hard and if you remember we talked about it a year ago when we were playing against Ireland and I had a knee injury. I told you I have faith in the new people I am working with. I shall come back to success.”
Referring to the crowd and the atmosphere they created, Marcos noted: “The stadium is indoors, shouting stays within, definetely the atmosphere today was fantastic. I like that, this is what I want, this is what all athletes want. I hope that the people will come also tomorrow and the day after tomorrow to help us qualify as I believe that this year is our chance to get in the first devision.”
