Marcos is through to the third round at the US Open for the first time in eight appearances after dismissing No. 17 seed Kevin Anderson 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 at Flushing Meadows on Friday night.
Long matches on Court 17 delayed the start, but Marcos was on top form when his turn came. With good support from the New York crowd, Marcos raced to victory in 85 minutes.
Looking confident in his ground strokes, Marcos hit 34 winners, twice as many as Anderson and committed just 13 unforced errors. A strong serving display from Marcos ensured he did not face a break point during the match and won 76 per cent of his service points.
For a place in the fourth round, Marcos will face Stanislas Wawrinka, who edged Ivo Karlovic 7-5, 7-6(8), 6-4. Marcos will look to beat the Swiss for the first time in three attempts when they clash on Sunday.
