Marcos Hails The Best Win Of His Career

Wednesday, 17 March, 2010

“Best win of my career. I think that says everything. I cannot say I'm not happy. I'm very happy,” declared Marcos in the aftermath of his thrilling three-set victory over Roger Federer in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open on Tuesday evening.

“A lot of emotions are going through right now,” continued Marcos. “It's the best win of my career. I lost a lot of matches against those top guys and it's a relief to win a match like that after being out for two years, having some tough moments. “It's a great moment for me  I'll try to enjoy it.”

He won’t be able to enjoy it for too long, though, as Spanish No. 18 seed Tommy Robredo lies in wait in the fourth round on Wednesday, a match Marcos is already focusing on.

“[I will stick to] my usual routine:  wake up, go play some soccer, go eat, and then prepare for my match by hitting some balls,” said Marcos. “And then go out there, have a great fight, and try to find a solution to win. That's the plan.”

Robredo, ranked 10 places higher than Marcos in the South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings, has made his way to the fourth-round stage with two contrasting victories, following a first-round bye. The Spaniard battled past Sergiy Stakhovsky 7-5 in the third set in the second round before enjoying a more comfortable straight-sets victory over Dudi Sela yesterday.

Marcos takes a 3-0 career lead into the pair’s fourth meeting, most recently defeating Robredo in the first round of the UNICEF Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch last year. Check out their head-to-head statistics here.

The match will take place on Stadium 2 on Wednesday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, beginning not before not before 4:00 pm local time (11 pm GMT, 1 am Cyprus). Check out the full order of play here.
